Celebrating Irish Grandparents
Irish ShopShare
If you are blessed with one or more Irish grandparents, they’ve probably given you more Irish gifts than you realize. That includes some very abstract ones, like a great sense of humor and the ability to tell a good story. If you have a grandparent who was born in Ireland, they have even given you the possibility of becoming an Irish citizen!

One way that Irish grandparents show their love is through beverages – specifically tea and flat 7Up, both of which allegedly cure various ills. If you turn to an Irish grandparent with worries about school or dating or work, you can expect some very sound advice and some hilarious stories poured out with oceans of tea. With luck, there will be some biscuits or cake too.

Suffering from an illness? Your Irish grandparent might offer you a flat clear soda with the sincere belief it will help. And regardless of how science views that belief, it always helps to feel loved, so it’s good to understand that tea and flat soda are critical ways for Irish grandparents to express their love.
Many Irish people are firm believers in lighting a candle as a form of prayer to support their loved ones. Critically ill? Candle. Big test at school? Candle. Travelling? Candle. The candle might be at their local church or at home. The sentiment is the same. They want to curry a little divine favor to help you with something difficult.

Your grandparents might give you some special Irish gifts such as Celtic jewelry or clothing, but those are just a tangible expression of the best gift – their love, devotion and support.
Irish Gifts for Grandparents
So what can you get your beloved grandparents to show them you care? Obviously, spending time with them is precious. You might be able to help with some chores that are getting harder for them such as mowing the lawn or driving them places. But it’s nice to have something you can wrap too.
If your grandparents live somewhere with cold weather, they might enjoy a throw blanket to snuggle up with by the fire. Winter isn’t far away.

Irish gifts such as candle holders and tea sets are a lovely way to acknowledge how your grandparents see and support you. They are also very practical presents, sure to be used.
A picture frame is always a nice present, especially if it includes a photo of you with your grandparents. The older we get, the more memories we have to appreciate. And if you can’t see your grandparents as often as you’d like, a photo of all of you together is a sweet way to remind them that those happy times together are on your mind too

If you want to help them look the part, a tweed cap for grandpa or a knitted Aran wrap for grandma is perfect. They’ll appreciate a connection to their Irish roots, and let’s be honest, it will give them joy to show these Irish gifts off to their friends and say what a thoughtful grandchild they have.
If you are lucky enough to have living Irish grandparents, don’t miss the chance to celebrate them on Grandparents Day, their birthdays and Christmas.
