This fabulous Irish basket celebrates Irish Flax. The plant which has played a crucial role in Ireland as the lifeblood of linen production. 

Irish linen is renowned for its high quality and in the 18th and 19th centuries the linen industry sustained large parts of the Irish economy, particularly in Ulster, where entire farming families were involved in linen making, from the growing of flax to the weaving of the cloth. 

The distinctive blue flowers and leaves of the flax plant are hand painted in exceptional detail along the exquisite weave of the basket, and is complimented by a pair of beautiful butterflies, the pollinators on who helped the flax plant thrive across the Irish countryside.

As always, these pieces are expertly crafted in Ireland by the artisans at Belleek Pottery.
